Photo, Type, or Dictate
Scan a meal or grocery food, or describe foods and quantities when a photo is not possible.
NextMeal is a private nutrition companion for meals and individual grocery foods. Capture a photo or describe what you are eating by typing or supported on-device dictation, review and correct the estimate, then save only the calories, macros, and details you choose. Recognition, transcription, and every nutrition value can be completely wrong.
These are current captures from the shipping UI—not concepts. The camera preview uses a local demo meal so you can see how to frame a scan; it does not represent a pre-completed recognition. The app also explains camera access before the system prompt, checks mixed meals component by component, makes detected items and every estimate editable, stores reviewed meals locally, and turns saved entries into simple goal progress and seven-day patterns.

The shared Swift app includes photo, typed, and supported dictated meal entry; component-first mixed-meal and grocery recognition; editable nutrition review; a local diary; personal goals; seven-day insights; a dedicated local NextCoach integration flow; settings and legal controls; complete localization; and synchronized release tooling.
Scan a meal or grocery food, or describe foods and quantities when a photo is not possible.
Review detected foods, serving, calories, macros, fiber, sugar, and sodium before saving.
Apple Vision checks the whole frame and bounded regions; Gemini Nano uses a component-first prompt on Android.
No account, cloud meal analysis or transcription, ad network, analytics SDK, or saved meal photo or audio.
Compare locally saved estimates with editable daily targets and seven-day logged trends.
Type instead of granting camera or microphone access, review every value, or delete all local data in Settings.
A dedicated screen manages app availability and shares only daily calorie and macro totals plus targets.
Each milestone stays useful without forcing a remote account or cloud inference path.
Native camera preview, component-first mixed-meal analysis, typed and supported dictated descriptions, editable results, and explicit local save.
Personal calorie and macro targets, a private diary, and seven-day logged trends.
The integration flow opens NextCoach when installed, offers its store page when absent, and retains the minimized local snapshot and manual export.
Smart swaps, recipes, deficiency indicators, and permission-based health-platform integration remain future work.
NextMeal processes meal images, typed descriptions, supported dictation, and nutrition reasoning on the device. Optional NextCoach sharing is local and limited to daily calorie and macro totals plus targets. There is no cloud analysis or transcription fallback hiding behind a button.
